The 1st Meeting of the Spanish Network of Excellence UBIRed took place in the Center of Molecular Biology Severa Ochoca (CSIC-UAM, Madrid) on December 5th. The objective of UBIRed is to promote networking and collaborations among Spanish research groups interested on post-translational modification by ubiquitin like proteins (UBLs) in signaling, proliferation and cancer. The Network is composed by 10 groups from Centro National de Investigaciones Oncológicas CNIO in Madrid, Centro de Investigación Príncipe Felipe in Valencia, CABIMER-CSIC in Sevilla, Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa-CSIC in Madrid, Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, Universitat de Barcelona, Fundació Institut d’Investigacio Oncologica de Vall-Hebron in Barcelona, Institut de Biologia Molecular de Barcelona-CSIC, Institut de Recerca Biomedica de Lleida, and CIC bioGUNE. The representatives of each institution are Dr. Oscar Fernández-Capetillo, Dr. Rosa Farràs, Dr. Mario García Dominguez, Dr. Emilio Lecona, Dr. Carmen Rivas, Dr. José Luis Rosa, Dr. Gäel Roue, Dr. Timothy T Thomson, Dr. Jordi Torres and Dr. Rosa Barrio.
